Sumer Territory
Sumer was possibly one of the first civilizations in the world. They started out as farmers and eventually created their own religion and society that influenced their neighbors. Sumer cuneiform was the first written language, also used by the Babylonians. The Babylonians also followed the same religion.
Ur was the first city of Sumer.

Early inventions
The Sumerians invented many things including the wheel, sail boat, the first written language, frying pans, razors, cosmetic sets, shepherds pipes, harps, kilns, bronze hand tools, the plow, the plow seeder, beer, and the first super hero Gilgamesh.
Gilgamesh

Gilgamesh is one of the oldest recorded stories in the world. He was an ancient king of Uruk who might have actually existed because his name is on the Sumerian king list. He was the first super hero; he was part god and part human with many special powers.
Sumerian's and religion
The Sumerians worshiped many god and spirits. They believed that the sun, moon, and stars were gods. The Sumerians believed that Nammu (the sea) created Heaven and Earth. They also thought that they they were created to serve their gods by using sacrificial offerings. They believed that their gods controlled the past and the future and that the gods gave them their qualities, including their writing.

Men dominate women
Physically stronger then women, men ruled women by brute force and made decisions for the society. It was law that men dominated over women. When the husband passed away the woman was put under the control of her husbands father or brother.
Education
Kids with parents that could pay would go to school, mostly boys since men dominated over women. The children were expected to work hard from sun up till sun down. Failure and misbehaving lead to lashes from a stick or cane.
